For 11 months I lived in Itatiba, Brasil and attended high school while representing my local Rotary group. I was able to learn Portuguese quickly through immersion. Two other exchange students were with me for the year from Slovakia and Mexico.
Throughout the year I lived with four different families. In each household I was expected to perform chores as if I were a part of the family, which exposed me to different ways of living every 12 weeks.
Our exchange student district would host events with all the neighbouring Rotary clubs, giving me the opportunity to meet with other students from all over the world.
